Cliffs of Moher

One of the most awe-inspiring places I’ve ever visited is the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland — and today I’d like to share why they left such a strong impression on me.

Let’s imagine traveling 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean. While many migrated from Europe to New York, we’re heading in the opposite direction — to the west coast of Ireland, a country that is now also a land of new opportunities for many.

The Cliffs of Moher are famous for their height, beauty, and connection to Irish culture. Let’s explore why they are so special.

First, let’s look at the natural beauty of the Cliffs of Moher. From the top, you can see the endless Atlantic Ocean, and the view is simply stunning.

These cliffs are towering, reaching up to 702 feet. To give you a sense of their scale, imagine that the Cliffs of Moher are about twice the height of the Statue of Liberty, which is placed here for comparison.

The cliffs give you an incredible sense of how small we are compared to nature. Notice the people highlighted in the red frame — they appear tiny.

Another unique feature is the rock formations and the wildlife. A good example of this is the thousands of puffins and other seabirds that nest here during the breeding season. Their presence makes the cliffs feel even more alive and special.

Next, I’d like to share about the cultural and historical significance of the Cliffs of Moher.
The cliffs are part of Irish legends. To illustrate this point, there’s a local story about a lost city beneath the waves that you might see during certain tides. Some say the city rises from the water every seven years, but legend has it that if someone sees the city above water, they will die before it rises again in another seven years.

There’s also a historical landmark — O’Brien’s Tower. This tower was built in 1835 by Cornelius O’Brien, a local landlord and member of parliament. He wanted visitors to enjoy the amazing views from the cliffs. It’s a wonderful example of how these cliffs have inspired people for centuries.

This brings us to my own experience. My visit to the Cliffs of Moher was unforgettable. Standing on the edge, I felt the strong wind on my face and heard the waves crashing far below. It was both peaceful and powerful.
I also enjoyed capturing this beauty through photos. The cliffs change with the light and the clouds, and every moment feels unique. It’s a place I will never forget.

To sum up, the Cliffs of Moher are a natural masterpiece, a piece of history, and a personal inspiration for me. I highly recommend visiting if you ever get a chance.
Before you go, my main recommendation is to check the weather forecast, because in Ireland, as they say, “the rain is never too far away” or “the sunshine always follows rain, except in Ireland. In Ireland, rain is always followed by more rain” or even “It’s always raining in Ireland. Even when you think it’s dry, it’s still raining. Only very, very small drops.”
So if the weather doesn’t cooperate and you don’t get clear views of the cliffs, don’t be discouraged. It’s simply a reason to come back in the future! Plus, it gives you the perfect opportunity to dive into Irish pub culture. Based on my observations, there are more pubs in Ireland than grocery stores.
